A Fairy Wedding
Every now and then comes along a courageous bride to be who dares and wants to be different. Suling and JK knew exactly what they wanted when they decided to hold their wedding at Changi Fairy Point. But what's even cooler about them was how they made the wedding so special by doing up most of the stuff by themselves. From decorating the floral arch to improvising their own ring 'pillow' with seashells and sand. The list was a long one. It's especially admirable because of their tight schedule at work.
When the day drew closer, I also see my faith being renewed. I've started praying and talking to God again. It was raining everyday of the week. Even on the morning of the wedding, the sky looked gloomy with the ominous-looking clouds. But by the time the preparation began, the weather looked spectacular.
The highlight could have been the nice weather, or the deco done up by the couple and their tireless friends. But for me, it was the love that was prevalent in the air, allowing me to perform at my best, given my emotive approach to wedding photography. There was just so much love and touching moments, that I had to keep reminding myself not to be carried away and concentrating on best immortalizing these magical fleeting moments.
I did a slideshow of the lovely wedding here.
I'm really privileged to be part of such a lovely event.

My Bangkok Trip (update at last)
Backlog has been so crazy these days. First some bad news. After spending half a year communicating with my web designer for the site re-design, at the final stages during the sampling stage, the design didn't go down very well with the audience, so it was pulled out. Both my designer and myself were very disappointed. I guess stuff like that happens.
Anyway, I know I'm really late on the update about my Bangkok trip. But here goes.
Both Liz (my wife) and myself had been so tired out just halfway through the year, so we thought of a short getaway. Initially we wanted to go one of those offshore islands in Malaysia, but the long bus-rides seem scary and potentially hazardous for fragile bladders. So we opted for Thailand. Even though we went there last year. This time, Liz talked me out of bringing my camera and equipment. Frankly, I was a little tired of lugging the gear around anyway, and wanted to travel light too. So I borrowed an old (4mp) digital camera from a friend. And we're ready to go.
One of the highlights of the trip is the Calypso Cabaret show. Do a google and you'd be able to find what I'm talking about. When I was trying to shoot show, I realised how much I miss my camera! Gosh, this camera is slow! After some time, I figured how to adapt to it's pace (instead of getting it to adapt mine, hmmmph) and landed a couple of shots which I like.
Coupled with a little bit of touch up in post-processing, they don't look half bad really. Liz was particularly astounded by how beautiful those 'women' are.

Now I've gotta say I'm pretty discerning with the real deal and those wannabes. And I watched a similar show by a different troupe a couple of years back. I dare say Calypso is well worth the hype and the money. Liz went crazy ogling at the dancers while I was in awe of the production values, the choreography, lighting, directing and stage setup (yeah right, no honestly). There were some moments whereby the camera in hand was really incapable of capturing what I wanted under the challenging circumstances, and the use of lights were so beautiful. Liz kept on urging me to 'drop weddings, go into dance photography!'. She used to do ballet you see. And she always wanted me to do dance photography. Not to say I wasn't at least slightly tempted :P Hey don't worry. I ain't done with weddings yet!
Another high point was the Safari. When we went last year, we dismissed it because we didn't think it'll be a lot different from our Mandai zoo. But since we were bored of shopping and shopping from the previous trip (which we still did lots of this time round), we decided to just give it a shot to kill time anyway.
We were pleasantly surprised that the tour of the zoo started out with a bus ride which takes visitors around the natural habitats where the wild animals roam freely. Here, let me show you. I had to shoot through dirty glass windows, so if they're disappointing, please forgive me.
That was the feeding session. We weren't exactly that close, but I could zoom a little with that ancient cam. Oh, the wonders of post-processing.
We stayed at Centre Point (google Centre Point Bangkok) hotel this time round. It's actually more like service apt than a hotel, but the amenities are awesome. There's a kitchen (yeah kitchen, small one tho), DVD player, decent dining area... we were like ... wow. For this price, it's amazing. We didn't miss our daily dose of thai massage either. We go to this massage parlour in mall which is in the Pratunam market. I just can't remember the name of the building. The building/mall is next to a hotel, I think it should be the Pratunam Park hotel... can anyone help me out here? Anyway, the massage parlour is on the top floor. The ambience is amazing, so is the service quality. And the price is similar to most of the smaller ones we've been to. I'll make sure I get the name card the next time I go there. It's really amazing. Sigh, it's just been a couple of months, I feel like I need another vacation already. How I miss the massage. Right Liz?
